Shannon stewart, director (Owner and Early Learning Coach and partner - Since 2004)

Hello, my name is Shannon and I am the owner of Bowmont Community Preschool. I have been involved in the lives of children for the better part of 28 years. From urban to rural and preschool, special needs to school-aged, I have provided creative, engaging programs for children of all ages. I am a passionate advocate for quality in early learning and child care. Passionate about quality in early learning and work as an advocate in the classroom as well as the larger early childhood sector. I am a pedagogical partner with Flight, Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework, as well as a pedagogical leader and mentor in the classroom and the larger early childhood sector. I am strongly passionate for brain-based and values-driven practice, the importance of relationships and continuous learning and ongoing reflection. I am frequently reflecting on my own practice and roles and strive to reflect on new and current research in the early learning field. I strongly value the Bowmont community and what that means to educators, children, and families.

“Relationships are our work!  My values, knowledge and experience guide my practice. I believe in community, the importance of family connection to foster belonging for the children in our care and I strive to create a community where all people feel they belong.”  ~Shannon

Emma Murphy, Educator

(SINCE 2022)

Hello, my name is Emma, and I am beyond excited to join the Bowmont team this year! I recently graduated from the Child Studies program at Mount Royal University, with a major in Early Learning and Child Care and completed my practicum with Bowmont in 2018. I’m eager to return to this familiar and welcoming community to continue growing and learning alongside the children, educators, and families. I come to Bowmont with experience working with children with differing abilities and bring a diverse wealth of knowledge about children’s play and learning. I recently moved to Bowness and am happy to be a part of the larger community. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, exploring Bowness, and volunteering at a seniors’ residence.

jennifer davey, educator

(Since 2018)

I have been working part time at Bowmont since 2018 and am very excited to be a part of the morning classes, as well as covering some afternoon classes. I completed the Flight course Exploring Early Childhood Curriculum: Play, Participation and Possibilities last year and continue to grow in my application and understanding of the many possibilities that Flight has to offer in early childhood development. Along with my Child Development Worker certification, I also have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and English from the University of Calgary. I love looking after my expanding indoor plant collection and spending time with my two children who are growing up way too fast!

“I love seeing the children’s growth over the year”~Ms. Jennifer

Sarah St.Martin, educator

(Since 2019)

I have been a full time member of the Bowmont team since 2019 and am excited to continue my learning and growth as an educator for another year at Bowmont! I've been involved in working with children for the last 18 years. I love how ever changing and evolving this field is and with these changes my passion for my work grows as well.

I love living and working in this amazing community of Bowness and you can often find me biking, walking my dog or grabbing a cup of coffee at Cadence.

You will quickly learn about my love of animals and my eventual goal of creating a (very) mini urban farm in my backyard. With the addition of a few chickens this summer, that goal is slowly becoming a reality :)
