“Places of vitality are strong, active, and energetic early childhood communities that welcome and invite participation of children, families, educators, and others.” ~Flight Framework

At Bowmont Community Preschool, we are passionate about igniting the love of learning. We believe that educators and parents are facilitators and partners in children's learning and overall development. We take pride in providing a safe, nurturing environment and a program of activities to enhance development of the whole child.

Bowmont Community Preschool is a multi-philosophy holistic play based preschool. We look to the wonder of the child to lead us on the journey of learning through our inquiry based curriculum that is guided by the values of the Flight Framework.

Our school values family and community and we foster self esteem through teaching self regulation and social thinking strategies within our program. Our environment is considered the third teacher in our curriculum approach by supporting, inviting and engaging the children's curiosities.

What We do and value at preschool…..

  • Our Director, Shannon Stewart is a Pedagogical Partner with the Flight, Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework. She values the important role this plays in the strength of early learning programs across Alberta. In this role, along with her role at Bowmont, she works to support and coach programs to bring the values of this Alberta Framework to programs in Calgary.

  • We value outdoor play as an essential part of a child’s development. Therefore, we can be often be found mucking about with loose parts, watering our garden and exploring all the wonderings that the seasons bring.

  • Community Connection through field trips and events in and around Bowness (currently suspended due to Covid-19).

  • Develop mental flexibility, inhibitory control and working memory (Executive Function) By offering opportunities for children to wait their turn, try new things, face challenges, and remember the sequence of a task, children are developing the executive function of their brain.

  • Early Intervention through partnership with KinDir Education

  • We have 2 community garden boxes where we foster stewardship of nature and living things.

  • Focus on fine motor and language development

  • Provide opportunities for children to develop their self esteem, self advocacy, self awareness and self regulation

  • Cultivate a community of kindness where children are valued as citizens.

  • Parent & child support and intervention

  • Explore music, science, art, nature, engineering, math

  • We mentor students from the bachelor of child studies program at Mount Royal University. This keeps our practice current and continues to develop the value we hold for best practice in the Early Learning Community.

  • Develop Social & Emotional literacy through day to day play experiences

  • Foster the love of language and literacy through music, song, and storytelling

  • Daily physical activity in our onsite gymnasium or outdoor play-space.

  • Foster children’s imagination, creativity, and inner engineer through the use of loose parts.
